Whether you become a flight instructor or not, there are other ratings, endorsements and flight training that you might want to participate in. These included but are not limited to those listed below, but the first two are typically the most popular. o Multi-Engine Land Rating - Learn how to safely fly an aircraft with more than one engine, focusing on safe operation with one of the engines inoperative. o Seaplane Rating - Many of us, myself included, find this the most enjoyable flying there is, learning how to safely take off and land on water, opening up new vistas of exploration, some in very remote locations. o Glider Rating, learning how to LITERALLY Soar with the Eagles, but also including different ways to launch including aero tow, auto tow behind a car or truck, winch tow and self launch with a small engine that you than shut off at altitude and can use or not use for landing. This too is one that I especially enjoy. o Complex Endorsement - Learning how to safely and correctly fly an aircraft with retractable landing gear also having a constant speed (Adjustable pitch) propeller and flaps. This can be used as the required special aircraft instruction time required for the commercial license. o Hi Performance Endorsement - Learn how to safely fly an aircraft with a Constant Speed Propeller and Flaps as well as with an engine with MORE than 200 horse power. o High Altitude Endorsement, learn about operating both pressurized and unpressurized aircraft flying where the air is much thinner. o TAA - Technically Advanced Aircraft, learning to fly planes with advanced radios, autopilots and instrumentation. o Tailwheel Endorsement - Flying Planes mainly from the past, but also new ones made to go into those hard to reach places. And that have two wheels forward and one in the back. o Aerobatics Instruction - Your journey to a head ache. Flying opposite the way the rest of us do. For some, adding on ratings is like stamp collecting. It can be an ongoing process and can become quite expensive, but it can also be very gratifying. Some of these include: o Lighter than Air - Dirigible Pilot's Certificate o Hot Air Balloon Pilot's Certificate o Type Rating - Learning to Safely Fly Specific Aircraft with a 6,000 pound or more maximum gross weight. o Pure Jet Aircraft Specific Type Rating.
